Finished external insulation project

"Fitted Window Sills - Customised Sills as a part of your Externaly Insulated Facade."

Preparation for a window sill Window Sills (sometimes spelt Cills) are normally replaced as a part of an external insulation project.  Traditional Irish window sills are solid concrete that sit on top of the wall forming the lower boundary of the window ope.   There are a few reasons for having window sills none of which do anything to help keep your home warm.
There are two good reasons to replace sills when Externally Insulating your home.  The first is because Fitting a window sill in an external insulation project traditional window sills are simply large thermal bridge connecting the inside of the house to the outside with no layer of insulation.  This permits heat to exit your room regardless of how much dry-lining you have or how good your windows are.  Rain is the other good reason to replace your window sills.  The overhang of a window sill is how far beyond the wall your sill protrudes.  The reason for this overhang is to permit rain to drip down from the sill directly to ground and be kept away from the Fitting a sill in an external insulation project wall.  The minimum sill overhang is 20 mm about an inch.  But if we put 100 mm (four inches) of insulation around your home the sill will no longer be able to throw water beyond the wall.

Removing a sill is fairly straightforward, building it again can be more tricky escpecially for bay windows.  In the case of uneven multisection bay windows we may even have to create templates to make sure that we can create the exact shape in the machine shop.  For this particular project we external insulation project needs a new sillused power-coated aluminium sills.  The powder coating gives the colour to the sill that will last for many years.  In addition to the customised metal sills, we also supply standard metal sills and concrete sills.

Until very recently metal sills were the only type approved by NSAI for use in Ireland with External Wall Insulation systems.  But we now have secured approval to use a Finishing a sill with external insulation project very traditional looking insulated concrete sill in conjunction with our external insulation systems.
