Home Energy Saving Scheme - Grants for External Wall Insulation
As you know Sustainable Energy Ireland give grants of up to 4000 euro for External Insulation. This is part of the Home Energy Saving Scheme launched on the 8th of February 2009. 100 Million euro has been allocated by Minister Eamon Ryan for this scheme, which covers gas boiler upgrades, attic insulation heating controls and wall insulation. Broadly speaking the grants are to bring existing houses upto the current building regulations.
The scheme is being continued on in 2010 but there is no guarantee of how long the money will be available. If you are interested in this scheme we strongly suggest you register your interest with SEI and secure your entitlement before the money runs out.
HES Preapproval
Because a limited block of money has been allocated to this scheme SEI also have to be careful in managing applications. They do not want householders looking for grants after the 100 million has been spent. Before you spend any money on External Insulation SEI insist that they have a chance to approve the project. Once approval has been granted the work should be completed within 6 months.
SEI are very clear that contractors are not permitted to apply on behalf of householders. So we can not do that part on your behalf. In fact almost the entire grant process is between the Householder and SEI.
Approval process
The good news is that the process can be done on-line and SEI have committed to reply within 3 days. https://hes.sei.ie/GrantProcess/LandingPage.aspx
In some cases householders seem to receiving their approval almost as soon as they submit the application.
Before applying you need:
-
Your 11 digit electricity Meter Point Reference Number (MPRN) to be found at the top of your ESB Bill.
-
Bank Details - account holder name, bank name, bank sort code and account number.
-
The year in which the home was built.
-
Contractor Details: Wall Insulation – 11976
This does not tie you us as the contractor, you can use any registered contractor to actually complete the work and sign off on it. It is an administrative step which you should do, to secure your Wall Insulation grant.
HES Grant payment
When the project is complete there is a simple double sided, single A4 form that we both have to complete. The contractor states what has been done and the householder confirms their bank details. That is all.
