"Powerwall External Insulation"
Powerwall was established in 1992 to developing a range of External Insulation Systems now known as Powerwall Systems.
Based in the UK PowerWall have a purpose built manufacturing facilities on 15 acre site, South East of Glasgow, and a 60,000 square foot manufacturing facility outside Udine, in North East Italy.
PowerWall produce three types of External Wall Insulation System (EWIS)
“Mid-weight External Insulation System”
Powerwall System 1 is a mid-weight external wall insulation system, predominantly used with Powerwall Dry-Dash Finish. This system can be used in both the refurbishment of existing buildings or in new build projects for increased thermal efficiency
“High Impact Insulation System”
Powerwall’s System 2 is a heavy weight external wall insulation system designed for use in areas of high impact. The system can be completed using a wide range of finishes from traditional wet cast render to modern acrylic based coatings.
“Lightweight Insulation System”
Powerwall System 3 is our light weight external wall insulation system designed for use with modern acrylic renders. This system can be applied to virtually any substrate from masonry to calcium silicate board due to its extremely light weight. The use of modern acrylics means a vast range of colours are available for finishes.
Each of these three External Thermal Insulation Systems (ETIC) systems each comprised a similar set of parts:
- Surface preparation of masonry or concrete substrate;
- Full system beads and render-only beads;
- Insulation board (standard white EPS, carbon-enhanced grey EPS, mineral wool, PIR);
- Cement-based undercoat incorporating an alkali resistant fibreglass mesh;
- Decorative finish coat;
- Mechanical fixings;
- Weather-tight joints;
- Movement joints;
- Provision for limiting cold bridging at external wall/floor junctions in compliance with Acceptable Construction Details published by the DoEHLG
- Provision for fire stopping at external compartment walls and floors.
The systems are for use as external insulation for refurbishment/retrofit of new/existing masonry or concrete buildings, up to a maximum of six storeys (18 metres) in height
NSAI have carried out assessments on the Powerwall range to verify that the requirements of Part L of the Building Regulations 1997 to 2008 can be achieved using the Powerwall External Wall Insulation Systems.
The declared thermal conductivity values for the insulation layers are
- 0.038W/mK for the standard white EPS board
- 0.031W/mK for the carbon-enhanced EPS board,
- 0.036W/mK for the mineral wool board,
- 0.023W/mK for the PIR board.
The NSAI assessment indicates that the system should remain effective for at least 30 years, providing that it is designed, installed and maintained in accordance with this Certificate.
